Re-Inspection results for Gold Diggers

It normally takes 40 or more demerits for the health department to shut a place down.  Gold Diggers had just 36 so we did a bit more digging (no pun intended?).  We  came across a dirty dining report by Action 13 News out of Vegas.

The list of the origin demerits are below:

Original demerits for inspection of 8-30-14

It appears that fruit flies swimming around inside the multi-use liquor bottles pushed the inspection over the edge and caused the closure.  This was a repeat critical violation at Gold
Diggers.

What is a multi-use bottle?   The ones at the bar that they use to pour your drink from.

At Gold Diggers, they were using Black Flag household flying insect killer to try to control a problem they must of been aware of.   Apparently this did not work and is also a violation. Restaurants and bars are required to use to use professional pest control.

The flies in the bottles are the reason they were shut down without even reaching 40 demerits.

Other violations included containers of milk stored at unsafe temperatures.

Gallon containers of chemicals weren't labeled.

Inspectors also found violations with hand washing and the hand sink. The ice scoop handle was touching the ice used for drinks.   No sanitizer was present in sanitizer buckets. Soda hoses were dangling and subject to contamination.

Inspectors were also concerned about holes in the walls, dirty walls and dirty baseboards.

Needless to say, no one can tell what is behind the scenes at any restaurant or bar you visit. One just wouldn't have expected flies to have been swimming in the bottle the bartender just poured your drink from.   This is why the health inspections are important.   Still, it isn't very comforting to hear about one after the fact.  One friend of ours was very disturbed to know hear this as they had been to Gold Diggers the very day before the inspection.

What is even more disturbing is that Channel 13 reported on this and visited the Gold Diggers at the Golden Nugget to talk to them about it.    They reported:

Contact 13 spoke to the hotel's food and beverage manager who said this isn't their proudest moment. He wouldn't go on camera or allow us inside.

Isn't their proudest moment?  In our opinion that is an terrible response.  Management should be aware of the situation in their establishments and certainly not have this cavalier response to potential health hazards to their customers.  Yes, they have now cleaned up their act and received an A grade.  Hopefully, the management and employees have had a refresher on the regulations and health standards necessary as well.
