4th of July in Laughlin, Nevada

Laughlin, NV

Three Fireworks displays will be featured in Laughlin over the long 4th of July Holiday weekend.

2015 Fireworks

Fireworks  Schedule

The 4th of July is on a Monday this year, so there will be two “Rockets Over the River” show by the Casino Drive Casinos and another fireworks show just a bit further down the river at the Avi Casino.

Rockets Over The River - Fireworks Display
Saturday, July 2nd  (9:30pm)
Monday, July 4th    (9:30pm)

Avi Fireworks Display
Monday, July 4th   (9pm)

Rockets Over the River - 2014 Finale

The Rockets Over the River is best seen from the Laughlin Riverwalk, the Tropicana Victory Plaza, Harrah's, or even out on the River itself.   The fireworks are launched from a location directly across the river from the Pioneer Casino.  Patriotic music accompanies the show on speakers and on local radio stations.

The Avi always has a great fireworks show.  The best location to view it is from the Beach Overlook right on the River.

Riverside Resort  - Fireworks Cruise

For the Rockets Over the River fireworks display on Saturday, July 2nd, the USS Riverside is offering a fireworks cruise.  It will leave the Riverside at 7pm, go upriver to the Davis Dam and they come back for viewing of the fireworks near the launch area across from the Pioneer Casino.   Cost is $40 per person and includes a gift bag, snack and bottled water.

The Celebration  - Fireworks Cocktail Cruises

Saturday, July 2nd and Monday, July 4th The Celebration tour boat (leaves from the Aquarius Casino Dock on the Riverwalk) is from 8pm-10:30pm Cost is $50 per person and includes a glass of champagne, hors d’ouvres and a DJ providing dancing music.

You can always go out on the River in your own boat, however, they do keep the area of the River near the launch area clear of vessels and traffic during the show.

Rockets Over the River - 2012 Finale

Our recommendation is go early, pick your favorite spot with a good view of the river, stay hydrated, and enjoy the show.   On Monday you will have to pick between the two shows.  Either on the Riverwalk or down at the Avi.  Both are different but very good.

Times are an estimate, it always seems closer to 10pm before the show starts, however, the crowds can get pretty big on the Riverwalk.  Many of the Casinos also restrict the bringing of coolers on the Riverwalk during the show.

Minato in Laughlin passes re-inspection

Laughlin, NV

Southern Nevada Health District - Restaurant Inspection

Minato Restaurant
Minato Sushi Bar
2311 S. Casino Drive, Laughlin, NV

Minato received an a inspection on June 9, 2016 for both their restaurant and their sushi bar.
Both received a B grade with 20 demerits for multiple violations.
See details of the original inspections here

On June 17, 2016 both were re-inspected by the Southern Nevada Health District and received A grades.   The Minato Restaurant still had 8 demerits for the following violations:

The Minato Sushi Bar has 0 demerits and no violations.

Visit Laughlin Buzz for more information about the Laughlin area.

*** About the SNHD inspection process:  An "A" grade is the top grade an establishment can receive.  Generally if any grade less than an A is received the restaurant can and does have a re-inspection shortly thereafter after correcting any violations.  Keep in mind there is a lag time between when the inspections are performed and
when they appear on the Southern Nevada Health District Website.  A restaurant may have been inspected or re-inspected (in the case of a low grade) since the data was posted.  When a re-inspection is done the list of violations/demerits from the prior low grade is no longer view-able.

Minato Restaurant and Sushi Bar hit with poor health inspection

Laughlin, NV

Southern Nevada Health District - Restaurant Inspection

Minato Restaurant
Minato Sushi Bar
2311 S. Casino Drive, Laughlin, NV

Minato received an a inspection on June 9, 2016 for both their restaurant and their sushi bar.

Both received a B grade with 20 demerits for multiple violations.

First the restaurant:

Violations are listed below, and include keeping food protected from contamination, handwashing facilities, having a person in charge with knowledgeable/management certificaiton, plus many others.

The Sushi Bar inside Minatos:

The Minato Sushi Bar is listed on the SNHD website as approved to open on 7-2-2015.

Violations for the June 8, 2016 inspection are listed below.

We are unaware if Minato has changed ownership or just a name change.  Previously, in the Southern Nevada Health District  reporting they were listed as Minato Japanese and Korean Restaurant. Under that name they had a terrible inspection in 2014, and were one demerit short of being closed by the SNHD.

January 29, 2014  Inspection results

Here is our reporting of the 2014 inspection under the former name at the same location.

Plus more info when Action 13 News from Las Vegas visited the Minato after the poor inspection in 2014.

***Be sure to read the information at the end of this article about how the inspection process reporting works.

When re-inspections are posted on the Southern Nevada Health District website we will share them and update this article.   If the establishments contact us and want to comment, we will share those as well.     The SNHD website is   southernevadahealthdistrict.org

The SNHD also has an APP where you can check recent inspections.  This is not as robust as the website but is a nice, quick way to check the latest inspection results for an establishment you may planning to dine at.  Remember though, inspection results are not posted in real time.  You can look for the most recent Grade on the certificate posted at the restaurant (as required).
